About The Flower School…

Founded in 2019, The Bath Flower School was created to offer floristry education that felt approachable, informative and creatively inspiring. What began as a small flower school in Bath has grown into a respected destination for aspiring florists from across the UK and overseas, known for beautiful seasonal flowers, thoughtful teaching and a genuinely welcoming atmosphere.

Today, the school is led by founder Verity Porter, whose career in floristry spans more than two decades across weddings, events, retail floristry, freelance work and teaching.

At The Bath Flower School, flowers are always at the centre of everything we do. We are passionate about natural, seasonal floristry and creating designs full of movement, texture and character. Inspired by the beauty and imperfections found in nature, our teaching places strong emphasis on sustainable floristry practices, foam free mechanics and working with British grown flowers wherever possible.

Sustainability is woven throughout every course we teach, from reusable mechanics and environmentally conscious methods to seasonality and responsible flower sourcing. Students are encouraged to think carefully about both the beauty and the impact of their work, whilst developing strong technical and practical skills that translate into real world floristry.

The flower stand itself has become something of a signature within the school. Filled with the very best seasonal flowers available, it acts as both a working florist’s flower stand and a constantly changing showcase of colour, texture and scent. From delicate British grown flowers during the summer months to beautiful, imported varieties throughout winter, every course is built around what is looking at its absolute best at that moment in the season. For many students, walking into the flower school and seeing the flower stand for the first time becomes a real highlight of the experience. It is often described as feeling like being a child in a sweet shop, surrounded by buckets of flowers and endless creative possibility.

The flower school itself is filled with natural light, seasonal flowers and a calm atmosphere that encourages conversation, creativity and connection. There is time to ask questions, experiment freely and truly enjoy the process of working with flowers. We believe floristry should never feel intimidating and place huge importance on helping students understand not only the practical techniques, but also the reasons behind them.

Whether joining us for a half day workshop or a complete career change course, our aim is always the same, to create an inspiring and supportive learning environment where students leave with both confidence and knowledge.

Over the years, The Bath Flower School has welcomed students from across the UK and overseas, many of whom have gone on to launch floristry businesses, work within the wedding and events industry or simply reconnect with their creativity through flowers. Many students return time and time again, whether to continue learning, refine their skills or spend time surrounded by flowers and likeminded people.

What sets The Bath Flower School apart is the attention to detail throughout the entire experience, from the flowers themselves to the teaching, the environment and the sense of community built along the way. Beautiful flowers, thoughtful teaching and a genuine love of sharing knowledge remain at the centre of everything we do.

Verity Porter

With over 23 years of experience in floristry, Verity’s career has taken her through weddings, events, retail floristry, freelance work for London florists and teaching aspiring florists of all levels. Prior to founding The Bath Flower School, she also spent 12 years teaching for another established flower school, helping hundreds of students develop their skills and confidence within floristry.

Verity previously ran her own floristry business in Hertfordshire whilst working extensively within the wedding and events industry. Her experience combines both the creative and practical sides of floristry, something that has become a defining part of her teaching style.

Known for her calm approach and generous teaching, Verity is passionate about helping students build confidence alongside strong technical skills. Her courses focus not only on creating beautiful flowers, but on understanding the mechanics, organisation and practical knowledge needed to work successfully within the industry.

Alongside her floral experience, Verity’s background in banking brings a strong organisational element to the school. From pricing and proposals to timings, logistics and flower ordering, she is known for having a spreadsheet for almost everything.

Naturally drawn to seasonal flowers and foliage, Verity loves designs that feel relaxed, textural and full of movement. More often than not, she can usually be found disappearing into a nearby hedgerow searching for something interesting to add to an arrangement.
