Our Commitment to Sustainable Floristry

When we created The Bath Flower School in 2019, we set out to teach floristry in a way that’s thoughtful, joyful, and responsible. Between us, we’ve spent many years designing, teaching, and working with flowers - and one thing has never changed: we believe beauty should never come at the cost of the environment.

Sustainability isn’t a passing trend for us; it’s at the heart of everything we do - from the way we teach, to the materials we choose, to the people and businesses we work with, and how we run our school.

Foam-Free Floristry

We have never used floral foam in our school. It’s a single use microplastic that never truly disappears, and it has no place in a sustainable future. Instead, we teach creative, foam-free floristry techniques that are practical, modern, and kind to both the flowers and the planet. Moss, chicken wire, and reusable structures and vessels are all time-tested, environmentally sound, and wonderfully effective.

No Single-Use Plastics

We don’t use any single use plastics. Our buckets, wrapping, ribbons, and vases are all chosen for their longevity and low impact. We reuse, repurpose, and recycle wherever possible - showing our students that sustainability isn’t just about materials, it’s about thoughtful habits too.

Locally Grown Flowers and Seasonal Choices

We champion locally grown, seasonal flowers wherever possible. Using British-grown blooms reduces travel miles and connects us to the rhythm of the seasons — an ever-changing, inspiring palette. There’s something deeply satisfying about working with flowers grown just down the road: they’re fresher, more fragrant, and tell the story of their time and place.

By choosing local growers, we support a thriving network of small, sustainable farms and suppliers around Bath and beyond. Sustainability doesn’t stop with us — it’s about nurturing a whole community that shares our values.

We are proud members of Flowers from the Farm, celebrating seasonal British blooms, and Sustainable Floristry, supporting the wider floristry community in working responsibly with flowers.

A Sustainable Business, Rooted in Community

Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond flowers. We run our business with the same values we teach thoughtful sourcing, minimal waste, and a focus on supporting local, independent businesses. From our coffee beans to our cleaning products, every choice is intentional. Being a sustainable business means being part of something bigger - a community that thrives together.

Leading by Example

At The Bath Flower School, sustainability guides not only what we teach, but how we run our business every day. By combining eco-conscious floristry practices with a commitment to running a responsible, low-impact school, we hope to inspire our students and the wider floristry community to make considered, sustainable choices.

We aim to lead by example, showing that thoughtful, sustainable floristry is not only possible - it’s exciting, creative, and absolutely achievable.

Always Learning, Always Sharing

We know sustainability isn’t about perfection; it’s about progress. We’re constantly learning, adapting, and improving and we encourage our students to do the same. Whether you’re just starting your sustainable floristry journey or refining your practice, we share tools, ideas, and inspiration to help you make choices that feel right for you.

We believe working with flowers sustainably isn’t just possible, it’s rewarding, creative, and future focused. Once you experience it, you’ll see that this approach doesn’t limit what’s possible; it expands it.
