Wedding Flowers Course

Four Day Course

On this course you will be totally spoiled with the choice and amount of beautiful flowers available to you, all of which, with our guidance will be used to create gorgeous wedding flowers.

Whilst the flowers will always be the main event for a florist, there are also so many other elements and skills needed in order to deliver a successful and profitable wedding. During the Wedding Course we will cover every element from beginning to end. From how to find your ideal client, initial consultation, costings, design, choosing the right flowers, stem count, making, planning, logistics, delivery and installation of the flowers and of course the clear up afterwards. We recognise that no two weddings are the same, but by giving you the technical know how, along with masses of hints and tips we can assure you that you will be ready and confident to take on any wedding.

  • We start the course with a cuppa and chat. Getting to know you and your individual needs and learning goals is really important to us and will enable us to deliver the best course we can to you. In the morning is theory. We talk about everything that is required in order to make a success of your wedding. In the afternoon it’s practical, making the first of the courses wedding bouquets. From experience we recognise that making bridal bouquets quite often is the thing that florists dread the most. Using the best of the seasons flowers we will demonstrate how it’s done. It is then over to you. You will select your flowers and create your very own bridal bouquet. The bouquets will be finished with beautiful silk ribbons from Heirloom Silk. We will then show you how these can be packaged for delivery and how they should be presented to the bride.

Bouquets complete, you can relax while we demonstrate versatile ideas that can be used for pew ends and chair backs.

  • Back to business with some number crunching. We’ll walk you through how to put together a quotation, manage stem count and create persuasive wedding proposals to ensure profitability. Theory complete we will then move on to wiring in the afternoon. We will show you all the techniques needed to make a variety of buttonholes (natural ones too with no wiring) and a gorgeous full flower crown.

On this day we will also include a site visit to our wedding venue and gather all the information and inspiration needed for the installation and photoshoot on day four.

  • We will revisit bridal bouquets… delicate, generous and loosely gathered, finished with raw silk ribbon – perfectly adaptable for any bride. This is the day we will help you to hone you skills, find your creativity, master the technique and feel confident with you bouquet making ability. Table Centre - using beautiful ceramic compote bowls,  we will guide you through the process of making a natural looking arrangement, talking about and concentrating on: colour, texture, form, space and scale.

Both the bridal bouquets and table centres will be used on the final day photoshoot.

  • On the last day of the course, we will take you to a Bath based wedding venue - where as s a team you will work together to create a sustainable flower installation. Whether it be a broken arch, a moongate or an aisle meadow, the final creative decision making will be down to the group. Your floral installation will create the perfect back drop for our model  to showcase your beautiful bridal bouquets, all captured by our professional photographer Andrea Gilpin of Wild Meadow. Table centres made on day three will be used for tablescape styling and again will be photographed.

All portfolio images taken by Andrea will be yours to keep and are for you to use as you wish. (all we ask is that you follow the photograph copywrite etiquette)

Finishing up the course, we will gather amongst all the beautiful flowers for a final chat and a glass of bubbly

Please note that this is a typical itinerary but timings may slightly differ on the course.
