DIY Wedding Flowers Course

One Day Course

A full day dedicated to wedding flowers, made naturally and entirely without foam.

The course is aimed at couples who want to do their own wedding flowers, but it isn't exclusively for them. Plenty of people join simply because they want wedding work in their skill set, or because they like the sound of the day. Both are equally welcome, and no previous flower experience is needed.

With a focus on sustainability, the day is dedicated to showing you how to make beautiful, naturally styled wedding flowers using locally sourced British blooms. Our aim is to equip you with the knowledge and skills to make wedding flowers confidently, whether that is for your own day or for someone else's.

We'll start the day off guiding you through the sourcing of flowers, seasonality, essential flower care, determining quantities, and exploring flower recipes. Essentially, all the fundamental steps before you can begin to get creative.

Sarah Wilson of Compton Garden Flowers joins us for this part of the day to talk about it from the grower's side. She covers what is genuinely available and when, how far ahead to order, and what the options are when the flower you had your heart set on won't be ready for your date. It is a rare chance to ask a grower the questions that are otherwise hard to find honest answers to.

And you'll be working with Sarah's flowers on the day. If you are planning to buy British for your own wedding, this is the best possible way to find out what that looks like in practice, and to see the sort of thing you could realistically order for your date.

Next, we'll move onto the making. For each of the designs listed below, we'll provide a technical demonstration, guiding you through the process step by step. We'll discuss concepts and ideas for each design, ensuring that your flowers perfectly reflect your wedding.

Bridal Bouquet –
Bridal bouquets play a significant role in weddings. Gone are the days of stiff, formal, and outdated flower arrangements. Instead, we'll show you how to create a front-facing bouquet that accentuates the flowers' natural beauty and individual features. Whether you opt for silk or velvet ribbon, we'll demonstrate how to add the perfect finishing flourish to your bouquet.

Natural Buttonhole –
Natural Buttonholes offer a more relaxed and informal alternative. Essentially, they consist of a small bunch of flowers attached to the lapel. By selecting the appropriate flowers, foliage, and employing the right techniques, there's no need for wiring. The beauty of this style is they can be prepared in advance and kept fresh in water.

Table Centrepiece –
Table centres are a great way to elevate your wedding décor. Using foam free mechanics, you will make a naturally styled table centrepiece that encapsulates the essence of your wedding theme. After honing your floral skills, we'll explore ways to enhance your creations with candles, vessels, and elegant embellishments, giving you various inspirational ideas for your wedding.

To wrap up the day, we'll enjoy some delicious homemade cake and a cuppa, followed by a Q&A session to address any remaining questions. At this point, we encourage you to ask as many questions as possible about your own wedding plans, ensuring that we cover all aspects thoroughly. This will leave you feeling fully informed, confident, and well-prepared.

WHO IS THE COURSE SUITABLE FOR?
No previous flower experience is needed. We will teach you all the necessary skills. Whilst this course is aimed at those who are wanting to do DIY wedding flowers, it isn't exclusively for that audience. If you like the sound of the course and think that it's something you'd enjoy, then we would love to have you at the flower school.
